Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has become the 22nd Chief Minister of Punjab.
In March 2022, Imran Khan nominated Pervez Elahi as a candidate for the Chief Minister of Punjab Province after the resignation of Usman Buzdar due to a no-confidence motion against him. But he could not succeed because 20MPAs of PTI cast their votes against him and Hamza Shahbaz became CM of Punjab.
By Election was held in these 20 constituencies and PTI again won 15 seats.
On 22nd July 2022, an election for CM of Punjab was held in Punjab Assembly. Ch. Pervaiz Elahi got 186 votes but his opponent Hamza Shahbaz got 179 votes. But Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari passed a ruling that votes of 10 MPAs of PML(Q) could not be counted as Ch. Shujaat Hussain (Party Head) has written a letter to him.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and today on 26-07-2022 Supreme Court of Pakistan declared him as legitimate CM of Punjab.
