District Gujrat was established in 1849. It consists of 4 Tehsils (Sub-divisions) i.e. Gujrat, Kharian, Jalalpur Jattan and Sarai Alamgir. District Gujrat has 1 District council situated in District Headquarter of Gujrat, Gujrat City and 4 TMAs (Tehsil Municipal Administrations) situated in respective tehsil. District Gujrat has 5 Market Committees. District Gujrat has about 1084 villages in 117 Union Councils.

District Nazim (Zila Nazim) is the head of district administration while Tehsil Nazims and Union Council Nazims are responsible for their Tehsils and Union Councils. Nazim is the Mayor while Naib Nazim is the Deputy Mayor of the district/tehsil/union council.
District Gujrat lies between Jehlum River on the North-West, separating it from District Jehlum and Chanab on the South separating it from District Gujranwla and Sialkot.

Agricultural Lands of District Gujrat are very fertile and produces super quality rice, wheat, sugar cane, tobacco and many other crops, vegetables and fruits.

People of Gujrat are very skillful and hardworking so Gujrat has developed many industries here.
